A Family Business
While Alloy Rod Products had been founded by John Hoffman as a free-standing extension of his other company, Designed Alloys, it is the Schroeder Family that has been the backbone of the company since its inception. Dennis Schroeder, joined later by his sons Mike and Matt, was recruited by John to start up the continuous casting operation. What began as a modest operation in the Aurora, Illinois facility in 1998 soon moved and expanded to a rented facility in DeKalb, Illinois in 2001 and even further in 2005-2006 to its present location in Rochelle, Illinois.
Dennis Schroeder began his career in the metals industry in 1975 after having served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. He became acquainted with John Hoffman when John called on him at Wisconsin Investcast beginning in the early 1990s. Over the next several years, mutual respect, trust and friendship grew and became much more when John asked Dennis to join him at his company, Designed Alloys. Today, Dennis continues as Production Manager for Alloy Rod with the same passion that has driven him over the past 37 years.
Dennis is proud of his sons and couldn’t imagine working without them. Outside of the melt shop, he often finds himself spending time with his sons and their families, whether it’s a backyard barbecue, fishing and hunting or one of his grandchildren’s events.
Mike Schroeder was the first of the Schroeder sons to join the companies. Mentored by John Hoffman for several years, Mike learned every aspect of the business firsthand. His roles in sales and operations at Alloy Rod lead to a further leadership role as Vice President and was recently promoted to President of the companies. Mike leads with the enthusiasm and passion that was inspired by his mentor.
Mike enjoys family activities with his wife Kelly and their 5 children. He also loves the outdoors and riding his road bike is his favorite mode of fitness and conditioning.
Matt Schroeder worked for Alloy Rod in the summers and between semesters while attending college and pitching for the Northern Illinois University Huskies. After he left college in 2005, he joined Alloy Rod full-time, further learning his craft from his father. As Lead Melter, Matt insists on the best quality products possible while he continues to prepare for the day when he will take over the reins for production and continue the legacy.
Matt is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting, fishing and still plays baseball.
Tim came to us from the Automotive Machinery industry in 2007. He is the father of 2 daughters and enjoys attending their activities and hobbies. He also enjoys the outdoors with family and friends, especially when it involves traveling to new places, camping, canoeing and fishing. Tim is proud veteran of the US Army, is active in the community volunteering for local organizations and has also been coaching youth club wrestling for almost 20 years.
